Module 1 Day 2 - Tuesday, January 30, 2018

Welcome back!  I will post an announcement each day to guide your leadership journey.  Announcements will include 3 sections to help you:

• CELEBRATE - showcase your success as well as that of your classmates
• INFORM - share due dates, grade updates, etc.
• INSTRUCT - offer assignment tips and real-world connections

You will complete 1 module each week so be sure you are working each day.  Each module consists of the following assessments and should be completed on the following suggested days of the week:

• Pre-Assessment *- Monday
• Lesson 1 Notes Check Your Knowledge * - Monday
• Lesson 1 Practice - Monday
• Lesson 1 Assignment - Tuesday
• Lesson 2 Notes Check Your Knowledge * - Wednesday
• Lesson 2 Practice - Wednesday
• Lesson 2 Assignment - Thursday
• Module 1 Post-Assessment - Friday

* These assignments are formative assessments - they are required to move forward in the module, but they do not count towards your final grade.  All other assignments are summative and count equally towards your final grade.

To turn in your work, 

• Submit a text entry by typing directly into the text box.
• Attach a document from Microsoft Office, openoffice.org, or Libre.  Read the info in this quick guide:  How to Submit an Online Assignment in Canvas
• Use Google Drive.  Read this quick guide to see how:  How to Upload a File from Google Drive as a Submission in Canvas
• To embed something like a Padlet, follow the directions found here: https://guides.instructure.com/m/4152/l/65823-how-do-i-use-the-html-view-in-the-rich-content-editor
• You can resubmit an assignment using the "Re-Submit Assignment" button (scroll down to the bottom of this guide for a visual).

Beginning next Monday, I will send you a weekly course message via your Canvas Inbox.  One of the things I will share will be a module newsletter that overviews the assignments for the week. I will share the same module newsletters with your parents as well.  Here is the newsletter for Module 1:

Yesterday you set up communication with me, updated your Canvas profile, and completed the NCVPS Getting Started Module. Many of you also got started on Module 1. Today you should start where you left off yesterday and aim at getting through Lesson 1 of Module One.

By the end of today, you should be finished with the following assignments in Module One:

• Module 1 Lesson 1 Notes and Check Your Knowledge
• Module 1 Lesson 1 Practice Activity

Module 1 Lesson 1 Notes and CYK
Lesson 1 is "All About You."  You will learn about self-reflection and how it affects your life as well as your leadership. The notes are divided into the following topics:  Begin Your Leadership Journey,  What is self-reflection?, How do you self-reflect?, What are the benefits of self-reflection?, Why is self-reflection necessary for leaders?, and the Value of Self-Reflection. The last page of your notes includes a Check Your Knowledge assessment. Take the assessment and then take a screenshot of your results. Take a moment to check your screenshot to be sure it includes enough information to identify which quiz you completed.
Module 1 Lesson 1 Practice Activity
All practice activities in our course prepare you for the lesson assignments.  Practice activities are like pre-planning for your assignment.  Module 1 Lesson 1 Practice Activity helps you begin the process of self-reflection as it relates to leadership.  Before you begin working, read the directions and the rubric.  Be sure you answer all parts of each question, explain your ideas fully, offer evidence from the notes, and share examples from your life.
Note:  You are welcome to move on to Lesson 2.  My weekly newsletter (the smore above) will overview the assignments, however, I recommend you follow the weekly schedule from above.  I will post very important information here that will help you complete the daily announcements - work smarter by using the announcements so you do not have to work harder on the module assignments.
