Module 14 is Empowering Others. As you complete your assignments this week, think back on a time when someone's leadership empowered you to be better.  How did that person, empower you? Did he/she increase your abilities?  Did he/she enable you to be the best you could be?  Dictionaries define EMPOWER as "to give someone more control over their life or more power to do something." Consider the people you have referenced and met during this semester and apply their support to this definition.  Empowerment is more than believing in you -- someone can empower you and not know you.
Today's Assignments:
  • Module 14 Lesson 1 Notes and CYK
  • Module 14 Lesson 1 Practice Assignment
Module 14 Lesson 1 Notes and CYK
Lesson 1 is titled "Are you an empowering leader?"  You will define empowerment in this lesson and assess your own empowerment. The notes are divided into the following topics: What is empowerment?, Are you empowered?, What is an empowering leader?, Are you an empowering leader?, What are the barriers to being an empowered leader?
Module 14 Lesson 1 Practice Assignment
This assignment is called "It Starts at the Top." To complete this assignment, you will start at the top with the top leader in your life - YOU! Complete the self-appraisal and self-reflection by filling out the template. Be honest - I am the only one who will read your answers so do not feel pressured to mark yes to all categories. Think back on your leadership journey so far and look for any changes you have made (AKA growth!).
Tips for Part I:
  • Be sure you offer examples from your life of what you do and/or don't do for each item.
  • Avoid marking yes to all the categories -- take a look back and consider which ones you can improve.
Tips for Part II:
    • What examples from your life can you discuss to explain your ideas about empowered leadership?
    • What information from the notes can you use to explain your thoughts about how to be an empowering leader? How does what you learned affect the real world?
