Module 12 is Committing to Lead.  Two very important vocabulary words this week are Commitment and Perseverance. Commitment is a pledge or promise; obligation, an agreement or pledge to do something in the future. Perseverance means a steady persistence in a course of action and the continued effort to do or achieve something. Don’t you think Commitment and Perseverance go hand in hand? Sometimes the things you commit to can be hard to carry out, but if you persevere, even when it is tough, you will satisfy the commitment.
For example, soccer practice may be really hard one afternoon and it would be so easy to tell the coach you quit and walk off the field. However, if you persevere and work through the difficult practice, you will be a much better athlete and the coach will know your dedication to your team.
As you are working on your assignments, think about how you will persevere as a leader when the leadership commitments you have made aren't easy.

Today's Assignments:
  • Module 12 Lesson 1 Notes and CYK
  • Module 12 Lesson 1 Practice
Module 12 Lesson 1 Notes - Check Your KnowledgeLesson 2 is about commitment and how it connects to leadership.  The notes include an overview of commitment as well as specific examples of how others have led with commitment.  Here are the lesson topics:  What is a commitment?, Commitments Every Leader Must Make, How Leaders Display Commitment, How Leaders Inspire Others to Commit,  How Commitment Looks in the Real World, Montgomery Bus Boycott, PETA, NOW, Greenpeace
Module 12 Lesson 1 Practice - Against All Odds
Lesson 1 notes explain an element necessary for commitment - perseverance.  After learning about leaders who encounter and overcome adversity, this assignment asks you to research another leader in search of a clearer definition of perseverance.
Tips:
  • Use two reliable resources to research and answer the questions on the template.
  • Be sure to connect your research to the Lesson 1 notes - always reference the content.
  • Be sure to use complete citations. For more information about formal citations, go to https://www.smore.com/fgawh.
