Module 6 is due Monday.
Got Lesson Notes?  READ AND APPLY EACH SET OF LESSON NOTES.  For each lesson, there is a set of notes and 2 activities.  The first activity ALWAYS helps you with the second assignment (ex. Module 5 Lesson 1 activity asked you to assess your group preferences then the assignment asked you to use your group preferences as you completed a group contract -- your group preferences and your group contract required you to APPLY what you learned in the lesson notes).  BOTH the activity and the assignment require you to show what you learned about the LESSON as well as how it relates to your LEADERSHIP JOURNEY (ex. Module 4 assignments were about LEADING with integrity and not just integrity - you can have integrity but not LEAD with integrity).
Important Due Dates:
  • Module 6 Communication in Leadership Due February 18
  • Module 7 Effective Decision-Making in Leadership Due February 25
  • Module 8 Leadership at Home and Abroad Due March 4

Today's Assignments:
  • Module 6 Lesson 2 Notes and CYK
  • Module 6 Lesson 2 Practice Activity
Module 6 Lesson 2 Notes and CYK
In the Lesson 2 Notes, you will learn about the format most leaders use to create great speeches. The topics of the notes include Speech Objective, Speech Opening, Speech Body, Speech Conclusion, Speech Delivery, Speech Language, and Speech Intangibles.  When you screenshot your CYK results, be sure to include enough of the quiz to identify which one it is that you took.
Module 6 Lesson 2 Practice Activity - Anatomy of Famous Speeches
For this activity, you will apply what you have learned about the format of great speeches by great leaders. You will choose 2 famous speeches using the recommended site (I encourage you to listen to and to read the speech when possible) and then analyze each according to the template.
Tips for Chart:
  • Be sure you fill out the chart using specific details from the speeches. Just as you cite a text when you write an essay to prove your points, you should do the same when you fill out a chart or other graphic organizer.
  • Remember to fully explain your ideas. Cite evidence from the speech to back up your ideas as well -- using quotes from the speech is the easiest way to cite evidence.
  • "Yes" or "no" is not a complete answer.  Answering "yes" or "no" does not show me that you understand the material.
Tips for Reflection:
  • Choose a speech based upon its leadership value and not just its life value.  Which speech truly leads? How?
  • Be sure to fully explain your ideas and relate back to the lesson notes. How do leaders use the specific speech parts to help lead?
