Module 8 begins today and is due Monday.
Hurricane Florence Make-Up Guidelines - UPDATED
  • Students with missing work should begin with the current module and then complete missing work once the current module is done.  Remember to use daily announcements for current as well as for missing work - use your resources!
  • Late work penalties will not apply to Modules 1-8.  Late work penalties will resume with Module 9.
  • If your county is one of over 30 districts in the state that was declared a federal disaster zone as a result of Hurricane Florence and chose to take advantage of the General Assembly's offer to waive 10 or 20 days, your grade book has been edited to meet the waivers and you as well as your parents and school have been notified by email.  You will notice that you are part of a 10 Day Modified or a 20 Day Modified section within our course if you are in one of those 30 counties.  It will not change your work - it is there to help me and other stakeholders know your circumstances.

Welcome to Module 8! Module 8 is Leadership at Home and Abroad.

Module 8 Pre-Assessment
Take a few minutes to complete the pre-assessment so that you connect to prior knowledge and get an idea of what content the module will include.
Module 8 Lesson 1 Notes & CYK
Lesson 1 is Global Political Leaders.  You will learn about leadership topics by studying a specific model leader.  Here are the lesson topics:  Political Leadership through War: Churchill,  Political Leadership through Economic Crisis: Merkel, Political Leadership through Terrorism:  Hollande, Political Leader through the Years: the Queen, Political Leaders through Social Injustice: Mandela, Social Activist: Yousafzai, Civil Disobedience: Gandhi, Reformer: Wilburforce.  Thank you for posting a screenshot of your results that includes enough information to identify which quiz you took.
Module 8 Lesson 1 Practice Activity
Module 8 Lesson 1 introduces you to Global Political Leaders like Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, and Mahatma Gandhi.  Each leader you will learn about is known for a particular political leadership; for example, Nelson Mandela is known Social Activism. You will meet some less known figures like William Wilberforce as well as some like Malala Yousafzai that work in different ways to lead politically.  For the Practice Activity, research one of these individuals using the recommended resources (or any reliable sources you know) and complete the template about that individual's political leadership. 
Tips:
  • As you complete the template, offer complete answers that use details from the notes as well as from your research.  Remember your goal is to show you understand the content. 
  • Be sure to cite your resources - go to https://www.smore.com/fgawh for easy to follow instructions for creating citations for online source material. As always, look at the rubric before you begin the assignment so you are clear about how you will be graded. 
  • Per the assignment directions, remember to use leadership traits from Module 2: Integrity, Discipline, Perseverance, Commitment, Empowering, Communication, Confidence, Empathy, Creativity, Delegate, Reflection.
  • Focus on your leader's leadership which may mean that you highlight information that is not as well-known.  
  • You much chose at least one leadership style that fits the leader you chose to research. To review leadership styles, go back to Module 1 Lesson 2 notes.  Be careful with democratic leadership. Some students confuse practicing democratic leadership style with standing up for a democratic government. Think about what democratic leadership style represents - everyone is given the opportunity to participate and ideas flow freely. The leader's role is to offer guidance as well as control. How does this leader showcase the democratic style?
