Module 6 Lesson 1 Assignment - My Communication Methods
For this assignment, you will analyze the pros and cons of face to face, text/email, and social media communication, reflect on your ideas, and then offer an example of one communication method. This assignment is all about identifying and practicing effective communication as a leader! Practicing here will help you when you communicate outside of the course.
Tips for Part 1:
- To show your understanding of the content, be sure to include pros and cons that relate to communication for leaders and not just communication in general.
- Explain each pro and con in detail by referencing the notes.
Tips for Part 2:
- For each reflection question, write a well-developed paragraph.
- Be sure to communicate your understanding of how the communication method affects your leadership development.
Tips for Part 3:
- Chose one of the methods you wrote about in Part 2. To challenge your leadership, pick the method with which you most struggle.
- Research how a leader should use this communication method outside of Canvas. Be sure to use the tips at https://www.smore.com/fgawh to cite any sources you find.
- Search for an example of a leader's quality social media entry, an example of leader's quality email, etc.). Once you see a model, then create your own example of a quality leadership communication.
- Note that you are creating your own and not just copying/pasting the example you found - I need to see your understanding of how to lead through communication and not someone else's.
- Be sure you write a sample and that you do not just write an explanation of what a sample would include. Your sample must relate to and show leadership. If you chose a face-to-face conversation, write out the actual conversation between the leader and follower. If you chose a social media post, write out an example of an appropriate social media post from a leader about something related to leadership. Keep in mind this would not be vague - a leader would use this method to communicate his/her ideas within the limits but would do so with specifics and still "pack a punch." If you chose a text, write out an example of an appropriate text from a leader about something related to leadership. Be sure to do more than just announce a meeting or get together - that is management and not leadership. If you chose an email, write out the email.
Need Help? Face-to-face communication has become less popular as social media has become more popular. As a leader, face-to-face communication -- whether with a group or an individual, is vital.
