Got group work? Effective leaders are effective group communicators - this week you get the chance to try out your skills and get to know a few more of your classmates. Beginning tomorrow, you will be working with your classmates to complete the Lesson 1 Assignment. The assignment directions share how to find your group and use the group features in Canvas.  More detailed directions are found at https://www.smore.com/nhp78:

Got missing assignments?  Previous modules remain open so you can reference them to help with current work. They also remain open so you can complete any missing work.  Please review the NCVPS Late Work Policy in our syllabus.  Work that is turned in up to a week late loses an automatic 10 points; work that is turned in up to 2 weeks after the due date loses an automatic 20 points; work turned in over 3 weeks loses 40 percent of the graded value. If you are completing work from over 3 weeks ago, be sure to contact me first so we can discuss a plan.
Got Resources?  NCPVS provides lots of resources outside of our course to support you.  For virtual help from a peer, go to the Peer Tutoring Center. For technology issues, issue a help desk ticket with the Virtual Support Center. To learn more about the world around you, attend a Culture Cafe session. Click on the visual below to explore all of the resources NCVPS provides to you:

Module 5 is about effective group communication. As a leader, working well with others is non-negotiable.  According to Beth Schaefer, recipient of the 2016 EDUCAUSE Community Leadership Award, "To become a leader, take note of the opportunities around you and reach out to others. When you purposefully work toward building relationships and creating communities, you'll become an effective leader—both for yourself and for others."  Click on the visual below for more information from Beth Schaefer.

Today's Assignments:
  • Module 5 Pre-Assessment
  • Module 5 Lesson 1 Notes and Check Your Knowledge Quiz
  • Module 5 Lesson 1 Practice Activity
Module 5 Pre-Assessment
Each module includes a pre-assessment designed to assess your prior knowledge as well as give you a sneak peek at the module's content. Don't forget to take it!
Module 5 Lesson 1 Notes and Check Your Knowledge Quiz
Lesson 1 is "Effective Group Communication."  The notes include the following topics:  Communication, How Can Leaders Improve Group Communication, Listening, Understanding, Acknowledgement, What Can Interfere With Effective Group Communication, Top Barriers to Effective Group Communication.  Use the guided notes to record your main ideas and details from the notes. Then take the Check Your Knowledge Quiz at the end of the notes.  Screenshot your results (include at least the last question to identify which notes you took).  Post your screenshot to Canvas.  Hold onto your guided notes to use to study for Monday's Post-Assessment as well as for the test portion of the final exam activities.
Modules 5 Lesson 1 Practice Activity
As a member of any group, you will have to share your thoughts and ideas with others. To do so, you have to communicate effectively with your all group members. This activity will help you assess your group preferences so that you will be able to be a productive member of any group. You will be sharing your preferences with your fellow group members for tomorrow's group activity. Tips:
  • Remember to post the template and not just a screenshot of your online quiz results.
  • Be sure you answer the questions honestly and completely.
  • Add examples so that it is clear you understand what you learned in the lesson notes.
