  • Module 15 Lesson 1 Notes and CYK
  • Module 15 Lesson 1 Practice Activity
  • Module 15 Lesson 2 Notes and CYK
  • Module 15 Lesson 2 Practice Activity

  • Final Exam Part 3: Multiple Choice Assessment
Module 15 Pre-Assessment
Do you best and answer each question honestly. Taking the pre-assessment will trigger any prior knowledge you have about decision-making.

Module 15 Lesson 1 Notes and CYK
Lesson 1 is Leading When Life Happens. As you explore how leaders handle a crisis, you will learn how a crisis is an opportunity for growth.  The topics for this set of notes include:  Leadership Happens, Being Prepared to Lead, The Need for Cooperation, The Art of Compromise, The Importance of Consistency, The Duty of Carefulness, The United Nations and World Peace, The United Nations and Poverty.  As always, be sure you screenshot your CYK answers and include enough information in the shot so it is easy to identify which quiz you took.
Module 15 Lesson 1 Practice Activity - Leading Through Crisis
In the Module 15 Lesson 1 notes, you learned the 4 C's as they relate to effective leadership.  You also learned about the United Nations as a real-world example of a leadership organization that uses the 4 C's to handle crises.  In this practice activity, you will become a member of the UN Security Council and respond to the current Syrian refugee crisis.  If you are not familiar with the Syrian refugee crisis, use the resources listed in the assignment to research it - if you do not understand the crisis, you cannot complete the practice activity or the assignment so take your time.  Then you will learn more about your assigned member nation.  Use the groups from the left menu to view which nation you have been assigned.  Even though you will be assigned the same nation as at least one of your classmates, you are not completing the assignment as a group - the group option is just the easiest way to get you the member nations material.  Be sure to read your member nation information with the 4 C's in mind.  Now complete the practice activity template using what you know about the Syrian refugee crisis as well as your member nation.  Plan carefully - you will use this template to help you with the Lesson 1 Assignment.
Module 15 Lesson 2 Notes and CYK
Lesson 2 is Student Leaders in Action. You will meet real-world student leaders from North Carolina.  The topics include the following:  Student Leaders, Chris Suggs, Roa Selah, Bennett David, Jennifer McLain, and Choose Your Path.  Thank you for including a screenshot of your CYK that identifies which quiz you took.
Module 15 Lesson 2 Practice Activity - Teens that Lead Research
This activity asks you to research a real-world student leader.  Please avoid researching the same individuals you have learned about in the course (ex. Chris Suggs, Malala Yousafzai).  Consider teen leaders from the movements you researched in Module 13 and/or teen leaders from your school.  Notice the template includes detailed information - use the internet and/or interviews to find the answers (remember to cite your sources including interviews).  Pay close attention to this leader's mission statement, vision, and goals.
Module 15 Lesson 2 Assignment - Teens that Lead Discussion Board
You researched a real-world teen leader yesterday - today you will share what you learned with your classmates.  Using an application of your choice (PowerPoint, Canva, Prezi, etc.), create a presentation to introduce your leader to the class.  Use your practice activity template as your planning.  As you create your presentation, be sure you are making the presentation inviting, professional, and interesting.  How can you present the information without just copying and pasting information from your practice template?  What visuals can you add to make your presentation more appealing?
Module 15 Post-Assessment
Before you take your last post-assessment, take a moment to review the content in your notes.
Final Exam Part I:  Leadership CV and Cover Letter
In Module 8, you created a leadership resume for an American leader.  For your final exam, you will create a curriculum vitae (CV) for YOURSELF.  So what is the difference between a resume and CV?  Check out the visual below:
Resume v CV.png
Remember that you are creating LEADERSHIP CV.  The self-assessment will guide you through the pre-planning of that CV.  Just as you did during the semester, relate everything you put on your CV back to your leadership development.  For more tips on how to create a CV, go to http://cals.ufl.edu/docs/pdf/students/CRC-CV-Preparation-2016.pdf.
Once you have reviewed your CV, write your cover letter.  Your cover letter is your chance to "sell" you and your leadership development.  It is what employers will read first and will determine if they should take the time to read your CV.  Be sure your cover letter addresses your top leadership skills/traits and that it "sells" you as a 21st-century leader.  You can make up the addressee or you can address your letter to me.
Be sure to read the directions carefully. Note what needs to be turned in - your completed reflection template, your leadership CV, your cover letter, and 3 work samples.  Then get started.
  • As the directions state, start by completing your reflection template - you will use what you write to help you complete your CV (it is your planning).
  • Then chose a format for your CV.  Since a CV is just a detailed resume, choose a resume template that gives you space to add explanations.  As with any format, be sure to remove the parts you do not need and rename the parts you use according to the assignment directions (i.e. leadership skills, work samples, etc.).
  • Write your CV.  Use what you planned on the reflection template. Offer specific examples that showcase your leadership development from inside as well as outside of the course.  Choose 3 work samples (i.e. assignments from the course) that showcase your leadership development.  You may link the work samples in your CV or attach them separately when you post - don't forget to discuss them in your CV.  Remember to read for content and then to proofread when you are finished.
  • Write your cover letter.  As the directions state, you are applying for the job of 21st-century leader.  Sell yourself as a great leader now as well as a leader with potential for the future.  Offer specific examples for each paragraph (follow the format in the directions).
  • Post all the pieces required.
Final Exam Part II:  Empowering Others Discussion Board
Part II is the Empowering Others Discussion Board assignment.  Keep in mind that this assignment should be done after you complete your Leadership Resume/Cover Letter. Think back to Module 14 - to empower means to give someone the courage and the power to do something. In the "Empowering Me" assignment, you created a stick figure that listed the specific ways you are empowered as well as how you want to continue to be empowered in the future. Use this image along with your leadership resume to help you with the Empowering Others Discussion Board. Now that you have a clear vision of your own leadership, send-off your classmates by empowering them to grow.  Remember the barriers to empowerment you learned - ego, competition, control, resistance to change, and lack of patience.  When you read your classmates' posts, which of these barriers relate to their fears? How can you empower each classmate to overcome these barriers and thus his/her fears?
For a review of quality replies, see the attachment.
Final Exam Part III:  Multiple Choice Assessment
Your third and last activity for the final exam module is to take a 50-question assessment.  Before you take this assessment, note that you have only one attempt and that whatever you score will be your final grade for the assessment.  To prepare for the exam, review the following:
  • All guided notes
  • Reviews posted each Friday for each module
  • Previous assessments
As you take your final exam assessment, remember to...
  • Read the entire question along with each answer.
  • Eliminate answer choices.
  • Re-read the question and remaining answers.
  • Choose the best answer.
