Week 7 begins today!  Module 13 is due Wednesday and Module 14 is due Friday. Our course ends Friday, August 10.
Got Missing Work?  If you are behind, you need to make a plan and catch up. Go to your grade book and make a list of your missing assignments.  Divide the number of assignments you have by the number of days left in the course -- that number represents how many assignments you should be doing each day IN ADDITION TO your required work for the week. Remember to use the old announcements to help you with completing your work.
Final Exam Activities  Your final exam activities are weighted equally and together count as 20% of your final grade.  Here is an overview of your 3 final exam activities:
  • Leadership CV/Cover Letter - you will use what you have learned as well as the work you have completed in the course to create YOUR own leadership CV (curriculum vitae). Your leadership CV (a detailed resume) will include your current leadership goals, skills, positions, mission, etc. and will also include at least 3 work samples from your Leadership Development coursework. There are detailed directions as well as a detailed rubric in the assignment to help you:)   Use the template to PLAN your CV and then create your CV using an application of your choice (Word, Google, Canva, etc.).  Once your CV is complete, write a cover letter that meets the assignment requirements.  **You have written a resume as well as a cover letter in our course before...now you are creating for YOU!
  • Empowering Others Discussion Board - you will share your philosophy, your progress, and your fears with your classmates one last time and send them off feeling empowered. Be sure to use your leadership skills to create an awesome post and to craft quality replies to at least 3 of your classmates. There are detailed directions as well as a detailed rubric in the assignment to help you:)
  • Final Exam Multiple Choice Assessment - You will showcase your content knowledge by taking a traditional final exam. It has 50 questions (a mixture of true/false and multiple choice). You will have ONE attempt at this exam.
To prepare for the leadership CV/cover letter and discussion board, do the following:
  • Go back to Modules 1 and 2 - review your assignments and look at where you started.
  • Then go through the course and choose your favorite assignments and/or the assignments that show your growth.
  • Think about the kind of leaders you have met this semester - which ones do you want to model?  Review those leaders in the lessons in which you studied them.
To review the lessons and prepare for your final exam multiple choice assessment, you can do the following:
  • Go back through each module and re-read Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 notes for each module.
  • Review Tuesday and Friday announcements to see the overview of each module posted.  It is the same information as the lesson notes but in a different format.
Final Exam Activities open Monday, August 6.  You got this!

Module 13 is about leadership in state and local government.  As a teen, your voice is just as important as the voice of any citizen.  Take a moment to read an article written by one of NCVPS' Peer Tutors. As you read, think about what activism means to you. Click on the visual below to link to "What's With All the Walkouts?":WalkoutIsabella S.'s TutorTalk article is about youth activism.  One way to make your activism public is to lobby government leaders.  Did you know that May 30 is "Meet Your Legislator" day?  I encourage you to use what you are learning to practice leadership.  Reach out to your state legislators about a cause for which you are passionate - got activism?  For resources on how to lobby, go to the United to End Genocide website by clicking on the visual below.IMG_2046
Today's Assignments:
  • Module 13 Pre-Assessment
  • Module 13 Lesson 1 Notes
  • Module 13 Lesson 1 Assignment
Module 13 Pre-Assessment
Do you best and answer each question honestly. Taking the pre-assessment will trigger any prior knowledge you have about decision-making.
Module 13 Lesson 1 Notes
Module 13 Lesson 1 is North Carolina State Leadership.  Do you know any past state leaders in NC? Do you know the names of your state representatives? Your justices? Your governor?  This lesson looks at leadership in NC.  When you complete your CYK, be sure you screenshot enough information to identify which quiz you are taking.
Module 13 Lesson 1 Assignment - Got State Activism?
Now that you have a better understanding of leadership positions in the state of the North Carolina, it is time to apply your understanding to the real world.  This assignment is called "Got Activism?"  To complete this assignment, you will combine your understanding of state leadership positions with a cause for which you are passionate.  Start by choosing a cause.  There are several listed in the assignment including the #MeToo movement and #BlackLivesMatter.  The current movement out of Parkland, Florida is a great choice as well - #NeverAgain.  You will research your cause and compare it to one of the causes you studied in Lesson 1.  Then you will write 3 press releases from the perspectives of state government officials.  For more information about how to write a press release, go to https://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwynne/2016/06/13/how-to-write-a-press-release/#4501e5f3b932.
