Happy July 4th!  Today is a holiday but the course is open and you are welcome to work so that you meet Friday's deadline for Modules 5 and 6.
Leadership Q & A
On Fridays, I host a live virtual classroom where I answer questions from students about the course and/or the weekly content. You can drop into the classroom at any time during the hour or you can hang out the entire hour. If you cannot attend, send me your questions via course message/text and I will answer them and archive the session so that you can watch when you have time. This week's Q & A is from 11am-noon.  To join our virtual classroom in Adobe Connect, go to the following URL: https://ncvps.adobeconnect.com/r4chvttcc9rx.  I will send more information via course message so be on the lookout.  You can also watch the archives of past meetings (ex. last week has a great explanation of SMART goals!).

Face-to-face communication has become less popular as social media has become more popular. As a leader, face-to-face communication -- whether with a group or an individual, is vital.  To read about the reasons leaders should embrace face-to-face communication, click on the communication visual below and read the article from Inc. titled "Leaders: 6 Reasons Face-To-Face Communication Is Best."

Today's Assignments:
  • Module 6 Pre-Assessment
  • Module 6 Lesson 1 Notes - Check Your Knowledge
  • Module 6 Lesson 1 Assignment - My Communication Methods
Module 6 Pre-Assessment
Take a few minutes to complete the pre-assessment so that you get a feel for how much you understand about the module topic. When you access your prior knowledge of a topic, it is easier for you to learn new ideas about it.
Module 6 Lesson 1 Notes - Check Your Knowledge
Complete your guided notes so you have them ready to use as you do your assignments.  Lesson 1 is Talk, Text, Social Media, and Face to Face.  The notes include the following topics: Antagonism, Protagonist, Audience, Communication, Face-to-Face Discussion, Email, Texting, Social Media. After you take the CYK, be sure to screenshot enough of your quiz so that I can identify which quiz you took.
Module 6 Lesson 1 Assignment - My Communication Methods
For Part 1, you will analyze the pros and cons of face to face, text/email, and social media communication. To show your understanding of the content, be sure to include pros and cons that relate to communication for leaders and not just communication in general. Explain each pro and con in detail referencing the notes. Then reflect on your ideas by responding to the two questions for Part 2.  For each reflection question, write a well-developed paragraph - be sure to communicate your understanding of how the communication method affects your leadership development. Part 3 is the fun part!  Chose one of the methods you wrote about in Part 2.  Research how a leader should use this communication method (search example of leader's social media entry, example of leader's email).  Once you see a model, then create your own.  Note that you are creating your own and not just copying/pasting the example you found - I need to see your understanding of how to lead through communication and not someone else's.  Practicing here will help you when you communicate outside of the course.
