Today you will participate in your second of many discussion boards this semester. Discussion boards are usually a favorite of students because they learn how other students see the content and how it applies to their lives. Replies to classmates should show your understanding of what your classmate said and then offer affirmation and/or advice related to the week's content and your life experience. Back up your ideas in your replies the same way you would back up your ideas in your assignments -- state evidence and explain it. Devon Haynie said it best in his article for US News:
Go back and read the comments you posted in the Module 1 Discussion Forum -- were they quality? did they encourage dialogue? Get to know your classmates. For Module 2's discussion board, use what you have learned from announcements and feedback to write quality replies. Use the "Got Quality Replies?" smore to help you with your replies as well found at https://www.smore.com/gqv59. I agree with Haynie and believe discussion forums should be a place to open dialogue. If your replies do not meet course requirements, I encourage you to repost replies to your classmates (send me a message via Inbox to let me you when you repost a reply - Canvas does not notify me of new replies once a grade has been entered). Practice makes PERMANENT!
Today's Assignment:
- Module 2 Lesson 2 Assignment
Module 2 Lesson 2 Practice Activity - Earth Colony Discussion Board
For Lesson 1 Practice, you completed a template to help you decide who should go to Earth's colony on Mars. Today's assignment is to post your decision to the class discussion board and then to reply to at least 3 classmates. Your replies are very important because they should affirm your classmates' ideas as well as connect those ideas to the leadership traits from Lesson 2 notes. Be sure to read the directions as well as the rubric carefully. Each reply must show common ground, cooperation, and compromise. Tip: For discussions, click the settings wheel in top right corner to see rubric.
